McMAC: A Multi-Channel MAC Proposal for Ad-Hoc Wireless Networks

چکیده

Traditionally, all devices of an ad hoc wireless network uses the same frequency band (or channel) for communication. Quite often, however, multiple channels are available but each device cannot operate on all channels concurrently. In such case, multi-channel MAC protocols enable pairs of devices to communicate on different channels simultaneously to increase network throughput. In this paper, we describe one such protocol called McMAC. The goal of this protocol is to increase the throughput of an ad hoc network in which each device has only 1 frequency-agile radio. Currently, we focus on the simple case where the ad hoc network is single hop.

Design of a Multi-Channel MAC Protocol for Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

In ad hoc wireless networks, a multi-channel MAC protocol can be used to make full use of all channels available and thus to increase the total network throughput and achieves low average delay. This lecture first gives a brief introduction to various types of multi-channel protocols and then discusses the design of a new multi-channel MAC called McMAC.

A multi-channel medium access control protocol for multicast in mobile ad-hoc network

In mobile ad-hoc network, some multi -channel MAC protocols utilize multiple channels to reduce the collision of wireless transmission and thus get high throughput. These multi channel MAC protocols aim at improving the performance of unicast communication, and multicast data are generally transmitted through broadcast. So multicast can’t benefit from the multi -channel technique. This paper pr...

Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

Analytical modeling of bidirectional multi-channel IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols

This paper presents an analytical approach to model the bi-directional multi-channel IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols (Bi-MCMAC) for ad hoc networks. Extensive simulation work has been done for the performance evaluation of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols. Since simulation has several limitations, this work is primarily based on the analytical approach. The objective of this paper is to show analytically th...
